Mark Paradis looks ahead to busy year

LEBANON – Republican Mayor Mark Paradis outlined a number of objectives for the new year at last Wednesday’s Borough Council reorganization meeting, including releasing the draft drawings early this year for the renovation of the municipal building.  The meeting was dedicated to the volunteers of Lebanon. “Voting is the ultimate exercise in democracy,” said Paradis. “You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote everyday about the kind of community you want to live in.”At the meeting, Republican Councilmen Gary Quick and Micheael Reino were sworn in for three-year terms, and Republican Councilwoman Kathleen Bross was sworn in for the one-year unexpired council term of Paradis, who had served for several years as councilman before being elected as mayor.

Paradis said that some of the goals for 2008 include continuing public hearings on the proposed renovation of the municipal building, acting on the borough’s five-year Road Improvement Plan, continuing fiscal responsibility, and working on revision of the Master Plan and on an Environmental Resources Inventory.

Paradis said the town’s planner and Planning Board would examine the new third round Council on Affordable Housing (COAH) rules to see how they affect Lebanon. He added that the Planning Board would also review the Highlands Master Plan to see how it affects Lebanon.

Looking back at 2007, the mayor said the borough had held the line on municipal taxes, the town’s revaluation had been completed, the borough’s Web site had been enhanced, the borough increased police coverage with the State Police, and Lebanon’s Fourth of July Parade celebrated its 60th Anniversary. He added that the Borough Council adopted a billboard ordinance limiting the size and type of billboards in the community.
