I-78 Corridor Transit Study - Update

Last night was a very well attended meeting of the I-78 Transit Corridor Transit Study. Attendees included many County and local officials looking for the latest information on how to resolve or lessen the increased traffic congestion on I-78. Some very ambitious plans were presented - but where would the funding come from?

Some draft recommendations that would impact our local area include:

  • Possible Central Hunterdon transit access facilties, pending further study and coordination with local municipalities
  • “Transit Ready Corridor” treatments to enhance bus service on Rt 22 in Phillipsburg, and between Clinton and Somerville.
  • Possible bus-on-shoulder treatments on I-78 to facilitiate bus bypass of congested locations

There will be a series of open house meetings to hear future travel options for the I-78 corridor. The next/closest meeting will be on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 from 6-9PM at North Hunterdon High School, Cafeteria B in Annandale, NJ
